David B. Neal Sr.
In Memoriam
April 6th, 1934 - July 19th, 2010

In 1996, Dave Neal had a dream of establishing a learning center for adults with developmental disabilities,
a much "forgotten population". Using many personal and community resources, Dave's "impossible dream" began
to take shape when his Red Apple School started in a small building in New Port Richey,
opening its doors to five students
By 2010, the year of Dave's death, the Red Apple Adult Training Center (RAATC) had accomplished the following:
through the leadership of Executive Director, Steve Giammichele and his team.
  •   increased enrollment to 105 students
  •   expanded its transportation fleet from 1 van to 15 vans
  •    increased the number of employees form 2 to 40
  •    reduced it's debt service from $80,000 to debt free and
  •    moved to a larger facility, then added two more buildings to accommodate it's expansion.
The illustrious history of the Red Apple School has had recognition from many sources, including
the WTSP Channel 10 WHO CARES Award (1998) and the J.C. Penney GOLDEN RULE Award (1999).
It also had it's long history of success lauded, when in April of 2008 and again in 2009, the RAATC was selected by the
Tampa Bay Business Journal as a "finalist" for the NON PROFIT OF THE YEAR award .
In 2009 and again in 2010 the RAATC was voted "Best of New Port Richey "!
David B Neal Sr., the founder of the "Red Apple", has - indeed - realized his "impossible dream"!
